Call to Action: National Student Debt Week of Action Feburary 27th-March 2nd
Call to Action: National Student Debt Week of Action, February 27th-March 2nd
Student debt exceeded $1 trillion in 2011. Time to Fight Back!
For too many students, access to college involves taking on unbearable debt. Many young people give up on higher education entirely, and graduates who struggled through often remain jobless and stuck in accelerating debt slavery as their interest rates compound. From 1981-2010 college tuition has increased 7% every year, more than double the rate of overall inflation of 3%. Overall, college tuition and fees have quadrupled in real terms from 1982 to 2007. All the while, politicians have ignored this problem.
It’s time to demand a solution! Draw attention to this issue with the National Student Debt Week of Action. The Occupy Movement has been instrumental in shifting the conversation away from budget cuts and towards fixing income inequality in the US. This week of action will force decision-makers to pay attention the student debt crisis.
We need everyone to participate, because without a critical mass of angry students and graduates generating pressure, politicians will continue to ignore this crisis. Dr. Cornel West has joined us and is calling on all students to stand up and fight back. Watch this video:http://vimeo.com/37209329
