I agree with the sentiments in this article.

This is the start of a long, protracted 2nd Iranian Revolution, not unlike struggles against dictatorships in Spain or Greece. The street protest movement might be dying down, but the Bus Workers Union is quite militant and is doing slow-downs, ditto for a few other segments of the industrial working class. The focus might shift to strikes in addition to the street demos and campus activity, which would be good for forging a connection between labor and youth in Iran.

Obama and company obviously wanted a stable Iran with a "reformer" in there they could do business with. Obviously progressive and radical forces are happy about the politicization of a previously depoliticized society.

Agreed, hopefully Obama sticks to that M.O.

But if Ahmadinejad ultimately stays in power, there will be a lot of pressure from smart, good-hearted people asking that Obama end his diplomatic overtures to Iran, I think that would not be good.

Well said. I actually think that the administration has been pretty good in its relatively muted reaction to the uprising in Iran. They seem to understand that forcefully supporting the uprising and calling for the Iranian regime's overthrow would be the kiss of death for the movement.
